Time. It just keeps on tickin.......

I feel like I just wrote this same post last year.....or the year before....or even the year before that.  Basically these years are just flying by and there is nothing I can do to stop them.  I have an eight year old......those words are just difficult to write.  Instead of getting sappy and emotional I will focus on the things that make Tyson who he is at age 8.  My Tyson is very intelligent and witty at the same time.  He enjoys school and he LOVES to read.  Science and history are equally as exciting to him.  His other passion is just being outside, riding his scooter, playing with any ball and now riding his new big bicycle, and he still loves to play on his Kindle Fire.  He likes to watch and wear any thing OU, OKC Thunder and now he has developed a new love for the Texas Rangers. He also likes "work-out" clothes, anything athletic or sporty.  I have no idea where he got this thing for clothing and brands. He's a pretty well rounded kid and I'm so glad he's mine.

The birthday boy at 6:30 in the morning.

We got him some new tennis shoes, a size 4 I might add.

Grandma and Grandpa sent him some Ranger gear (in preparation for our Ranger game with them this summer)

He also got a Lego gift card from Paul's parents.  I'm sure we have a trip to the Lego store in our near future.

Mom and Dad got him his very own Ranger jersey too.......he loved it!!!

Chocolate chip muffins for breakfast this morning.

Instead of a birthday party we are taking Tyson and three of his buddies to a Redhawks game next Saturday.  So today is birthday celebration part 1 and the rest to be continued.........

A Very Special Mile

I had another one of those "proud Mommy" moments today.  Tyson ran his first mile run today.  It was the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon and he ran the kid's race.  Over the last two months we have been tracking Tyson's running.  Each child was supposed to log a total of 25 miles on their own and run the last mile on race day and then receive their medal.  At first Tyson was all ready for the run but as it grew closer he got nervous and was afraid he wouldn't be able to run the whole thing.  Paul and I knew  hecould.  This morning we were a team and I assured him he could do it.

He looks so old.  He wanted to wear a short sleeved CT tee and his was long sleeve, so he wore mine.

It was an early morning!  We were downtown by 7 am.

Group shot of some of the Cross Timber kiddos, about another 30 showed up after we took this picture.

Yay Buddy!  His first running medal.  He was so proud of himself and already wants to do another run.  I totally enjoyed running with my Buddy, next up a 5K together.

Let's go fly a kite......

It turns out the infamous Oklahoma wind is good for something.  Who knew.

Today was the annual 2nd Grade Kite Day, where parents are invited to come fly a kite with their child.  We had great weather for it......a little warm but good wind.  Tyson was pretty pumped that Paul could take off the afternoon and come up to the school for some kite flying memories.

Yes they are "adding" more string so the kite can "go higher!"

Easily the the highest kite there!!!

Houston, we have a problem!!!  Four kites, four stings......same location.

I'll be honest, I don't know how to fly a kite.  I was just there for moral support.  This totally falls under the daddy/son category.

Christmas parties all around

Lucky for me the kids class parties seem to fall on opposite days.  Which is good since I seem to keep volunteering to bring treats to both parties.  This way I can attend each one.  Friday was Tyson's and Em's was today.  Tyson's party consisted of a book exchange game, a craft and a plate FULL of sweets.  Em's began with songs performed by the class then finished up with a another plate FULL of goodies.

It's tough when you're the sibling, fortunately we brought extra snacks to keep these two cute blonds busy.

 Tyson LOVES Ms. Moore!

Check out the big guy next to her.  I couldn't help it, I had to.

So glad Paul came home early so he could make her party and see her perform.

These kiddos are ready to start their Christmas break!  Last day is tomorrow.

Rockin Around the Christmas Tree

Each year Tyson has a music program and each year they are absolutely precious.  This year was no exception.  The entire 2nd grade performed songs along with reading from the book Bear Stays Up.
Tyson was dressed as a Christmas tree.  He sang, he danced, and he had a speaking part.  But the best part is that he smiled the entire time.  Sometimes my Buddy gets a little too focused on being perfect and forgets to have a good time.  Not sure where he gets that annoying habit.

Check out the shoes.  As soon as the dress code was announced for the program Tyson came home and told me he wanted to wear his nice black slacks and his dress shoes.  Apparently his dance partner did not feel the same.

 Smiles!!!

Our sweet friends and neighbors.  Adam and Tyler are two of Tyson's favorite people.  He invited them and they both left work early to get home in time for his performance.  Madison even came (she's Tyler's little sister who watches the kids sometimes).  Most kids had lots of peeps and family in the audience.  So it was nice for Tyson to have his own cheering section since we didn't have any family in town for the show.

 He looked so grown up!!!

Another milestone........

About 4 months ago Paul and Tyson set off to "learn to ride a bike."  Paul took the training wheels off, Tyson put on his helmet and they were off.  And 5 minutes later they were back. Mission unsuccessful!

Then last Sunday Tyson said he wanted to try again.  But this time it was different.  Tyson wanted to learn rather than Paul wanting Tyson to learn.  Just like swimming, it has to come from Tyson.  He has never been one to be forced into anything.  When he's ready, he gets it.

He's been riding every single day after school........ rain, shine, wind, tornado or earthquake.

Guess it's about time to get a new bike.  His long legs have quickly outgrown this one.

My BIG reader

Tyson brought home his STAR Reading Diagnostic Report this week. I could not be more proud!!! His GE (grade equivalent) is a 4.5, which means he's reading at the level of a fourth grader who has completed his fifth month of school. He also achieved a National Percentile Rank (PR) of 98. This score is in the above average range which means my Buddy scored greater than 98% of students nationally in the same grade. Not bad for my 2nd grader in his 3rd week of school! Way to go Buddy!!!

Handsome and smart!!! I hope he continues to enjoy reading.

We got spirit, how 'bout you?

Fridays at Cross Timbers are spirit days. All the kids are expected to wear their school shirts and they start the day with a school assembly in the cafeteria where they sing songs, recognize new students as well as birthdays for the week. My kids couldn't wait to wear their new CT shirts. I love the three quarter length sleeves but unfortunately it is still HOT. Didn't stop mine though! Em put her own twist on the CT shirt with a hot pink tutu skirt. That's my girl.

They won't admit it but I think they really like knowing that each other is at their school.
