Another "family" class project

Tyson's teacher assigns the kids "family" projects for the kids to do. In December I, I mean we created a Christmas tree out of pipe cleaners. This month I, I mean we had to a create a patriotic symbol that would be able to hang in the classroom. I wanted to make a cool sparkly red, white and blue wreath. I was quickly informed by my husband and son that a wreath was not a cool project. Really? But a brown eagle says "cool?" Tyson wanted to make an eagle. So.....we made any eagle. It actually came out pretty cute.

And yes......the shirt my son has on is a homemade OU tee-shirt, handmade my who else??? My son. I guess all those years of me wearing homemade puff paint and glitter shirts in the 80's somehow wore off on him.

A walk in the park

As I write this post I am actually watching the forecast, it's hard to believe that Saturday the weather was beautiful in the upper 70's but in 2 days we could have lows of 0 degrees. And I thought Texas weather was weird. But Saturday was gorgeous. We took the kids to a new park here in Edmond. We played for a few hours, went on a nature hike then picked up sandwiches for lunch and brought them back to the park for a picnic.

Apparently mother nature got the weather memo too, all of God's creatures were out in full force soaking up the sun.

It had been a while since all four of us had spent the day outside like that, the kids seemed to really enjoy it. Paul and I left there saying "we need to do this more often."

As soon as the
snow melts and we get back above freezing........back to the park.

Fun Friday

The forecast was calling for an unseasonably warm day in Central Oklahoma. It it was right on, the high was 76 and sunny. It was a BEAUTIFUL day. When Sherri called and asked if I wanted to go the zoo, I had to say yes (even though I still feel guilty doing fun stuff like that without Tyson). We had so much fun. Our friend Ashley and her son Laird came too.

Savannah, Laird and Em

Emmy is a big fan of Savannah, and Savannah likes her.......we're lucky they're right across the street

They all loved feeding the ducks

We left there just in time go pick up Tyson and his friend after school. Next time we will bring Tyson. I see a zoo pass in our new future.

Fun Friday Part II

Tyson invited his first friend to play after school today. I'm so proud of my Buddy, he's really become pretty social. He's made 3 really close friends and played at their house a few times now it's our turn to host. This is Rhett, his twin brother Ross is also in Tyson's class. Him and Tyson had a great time today.

They played outside on the trampoline

They challenged each other on the wii

And finished off the day with pizza and root beer for dinner

Rhett's mom picked him up around 7 but not before both boys told me they would like to have a sleepover sometime. Am I ready for that?

Pretty in Pink Pose #2

Anyone that knows Em has probably seen her infamous "pretty pose." Well, she has a new pose or maybe I should see another pose. It's become know as "pretty pose #2." The creativity in the name department is overwhelming around here.

When I get the camera out and say, "look at mommy." This is what I get.

I could just eat her up!

Gotta Love R&R

Every Monday Tyson gets a list of spelling words and sentences. It's his job and ours to make sure he learns his words before Friday's spelling test. But on on Wednesday they have a practice test. If they get a 100 then that grade counts as their actual test grade and on Friday they get to enjoy R&R in the library while the other kiddos take the spelling test. When I asked Tyson what is R&R, he responded with, "you know, rest.....relax......read a book in the library, basically we get to chill out while the others take a test."

It looks like his Monday and Tuesday night writing practices are paying off. He's managed to make a 100 every Wednesday. Go Buddy! I am so proud of how excited you get about your school work.

So, I made a wreath........

and it came out pretty cute. I am not very crafty but I like to pretend that I am. I LOVE pink and I love to decorate for any type of holiday.......thus my heart wreath was born.

Not bad for some pink felt, heart shaped styrofoam thingy and some pins.

Oh yeah, and it makes a cute picture prop too!

I heart these two!

Baby, it's COLD outside!

This was the scene from our front door at 7 this morning. You can't tell but the roads were covered in a thin sleek layer of ice, made for DANGEROUS driving.

The school closures began rolling across the top of the TV at 5 am. Edmond public schools were CLOSED due to the ice on the roads. That meant a LONG day in the house with the kids. I knew I couldn't have them fighting all day and I definitely didn't want Tyson playing the wii all day either.

Hmmmm........what to do? What to do???

I decided this would be a perfect opportunity to dig in the craft closet and find some things for the kids to work on. We decided on Valentine Cards! As you can see in the above picture Em did not want any kind of instruction lesson from Tyson on how hard to squeeze the glue. Eventually she got over it, he toned down the bossiness and they had a LOT of fun.

Ta Da!!!!

After over two hours of crafting these kiddos worked up an appetite. Luckily I had a DiGiorno's pizza in the freezer. Not a bad day after all, crafts followed by pizza and one of Tyson's special sodas he got at Pops last week.

Little Miss Boomer and Mr. Sooner

It's as if these kids haven't been living in Texas all of their lives. They just hopped on the Sooner bandwagon and have yet to look back. I must say they do look pretty cute in the red. And we all know that Aunt Jenna is proud.

What is 66 feet tall and weighs over 4 tons?

This weekend we continued with our Oklahoma "must see" list. Today we took the kids to a unique gas station which just so happens to have over 400 types of bottled sodas and is located just outside of Edmond on Route 66. Pops is the coolest gas station ever and they have pretty good diner style food. While we were waiting for our table we let the kids pick the types of soda they wanted to bring home. Tyson was in a colored sugar heaven.

Another Oklahoma first for these South Texas kids

This is what a 9 degree school morning looks like.........

Even Tyson was cold and "he was born for the cold."
