A Very Special Mile

I had another one of those "proud Mommy" moments today.  Tyson ran his first mile run today.  It was the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon and he ran the kid's race.  Over the last two months we have been tracking Tyson's running.  Each child was supposed to log a total of 25 miles on their own and run the last mile on race day and then receive their medal.  At first Tyson was all ready for the run but as it grew closer he got nervous and was afraid he wouldn't be able to run the whole thing.  Paul and I knew  hecould.  This morning we were a team and I assured him he could do it.

He looks so old.  He wanted to wear a short sleeved CT tee and his was long sleeve, so he wore mine.

It was an early morning!  We were downtown by 7 am.

Group shot of some of the Cross Timber kiddos, about another 30 showed up after we took this picture.

Yay Buddy!  His first running medal.  He was so proud of himself and already wants to do another run.  I totally enjoyed running with my Buddy, next up a 5K together.

Let's go fly a kite......

It turns out the infamous Oklahoma wind is good for something.  Who knew.

Today was the annual 2nd Grade Kite Day, where parents are invited to come fly a kite with their child.  We had great weather for it......a little warm but good wind.  Tyson was pretty pumped that Paul could take off the afternoon and come up to the school for some kite flying memories.

Yes they are "adding" more string so the kite can "go higher!"

Easily the the highest kite there!!!

Houston, we have a problem!!!  Four kites, four stings......same location.

I'll be honest, I don't know how to fly a kite.  I was just there for moral support.  This totally falls under the daddy/son category.

Kite Day 2012:  SUCCESS

Tea Party

Last Saturday Emerson went to her friend Kelsey's birthday party.  I should mention it was a tea party and the invitation said to "dress-up."  I cannot tell you how excited Em was to don her most favorite "dress-up" attire, complete with plastic heals and a feather boa.

Now prepare to be blown away by some serious girlee cuteness!

 Note the heals.....

You cannot attend a tea party with out the proper hat.

Look at these girls!!!!  They were so stinkin cute and so accessorized, it was ridiculous!  I was just so glad I brought my camera.

The good with the bad

It's quite ironic that as I write this post about Spring and my beautiful Spring blooms we are under all sorts of thunderstorm, tornado and severe weather warnings.  Actually we are under severe weather threats for the entire weekend.  I believe one national article referred to the storms as "life threatening."
It's 12 am and I'm the only one awake watching TV and listening to the warnings.  I'm letting Paul sleep but if the sirens go off then I'm waking everybody up and we're heading to the shelter.  By the way tomorrow I get to sleep and he stays on weather duty.  I spent most of the day getting our shelter "ready."  Which means I made sure all of our battery operated lights had fresh batteries, I put batteries in our fan (it gets really HOT down there, especially if we had to spend more than 15 minutes in it).  Stocked it with some bottled water and snacks as well as out important documents......just in case.

I took these pictures yesterday and the weather was beautiful.  Things change pretty quickly around here in Oklahoma.

I love my roses and love my spring color.  Hopefully they make it through the weekend weather!

Hunting for Eggs

This was our second year to participate in the neighborhood Easter Egg Hunt.  The kids had a great time as expected.  They seemed to struggle with the "12 egg limit" set by the HOA to make sure everyone got eggs in their basket.

This picture is funny for a few reasons.  Since I helped with the set-up of the Easter Egg Hunt my kids got there early.......so early that they were in the parking lot when the Easter Bunny pulled up in his white  Honda Civic.  Tyson leaned over to Paul and whispered, "I think the Easter Bunny is Lance (our neighbor)."  Paul asked, "why do you think that Buddy?"  Tyson quickly responds with well.....that's what Lance drives and he has on flip flops....Lance always wears flip flops."  So wise.

This is the look of an almost 8 year old who just found an egg with $5 in it!

Suddenly my Emmy seems so tall.

Love my little Easter blessings!!!

Has it really been that long???

So I realize my last blog post was February 20th, right after our ski trip.  It's not like the Lucas Family fell off the Earth for the last month and a half.   Quite the opposite really.  It seems as if everybody got really busy.  There has been  5 inch haircuts, rainy days, theme days at school, St. Patrick's day, a trip to Texas.......oh and Spring has sprung around here too.  In the interest of time I have decided to just post a hodge podge of pictures to get caught up.

Em had her hair cut and we cut off 5 inches.  She wanted it shorter but because I NEVER had long hair as a child I just couldn't cut that much off.  That is your fault Mom.  Maybe after her dance recital in May I will let her cut off a few more inches.  For now this length makes us happy.

PJ day!  They love to wear jammies to school.

Crazy Day!!! Obviously.  Em's favorite theme day so far!  Even my conservative Tyson got into it.

Picnic/Hat day!  Parents were invited to come eat outside with the kiddos.

Rainy Day......doesn't stop these kids!
There are worms to be found and they WILL find them.  See the bucket.

Can't have a holiday go by without me baking.  I made these adorable and delicious mint triple chocolate cookies for our St. Patty's day cookout with our neighbors.

Driving to Dallas

This picture is special.  While in Dallas I got together with my childhood best friend for dinner and MARGARITAS.  I hadn't seen her in about 12 years.  It was the best 4 hours I've ever spent on a patio of a Mexican restaurant.....however, this picture appeared much more in focus that night.  Four hours of margaritas will do that to you.

Enjoying the beautiful weather and heading down to the park.

Oh and by the way my Tyson looks like he's 12!

Em getting her princess tent ready for the first royal sleep.

Well there you have it. That is about 45 days worth of Lucas Family updates, the Reader's Digest version.
