Kindergarten Feast 2012

Even the kindergarten class had a Thanksgiving Feast!  I was in charge of the "dessert station."  Surprise?!?

Em's teacher had stations set up for the kids.  Each station represented a thanksgiving type food.  For example at station #1 the kids made patterns on toothpicks with ham and cheese cubes, them #2 they made fruit salad, then stuffing and even mashed potatoes.  At my station the kids mixed pudding with canned pumpkin pie filling in little cups, put a few crushed Nilla Wafers in there and then added a scoop of cool whip on top...........and just like that they have pumpkin pie cups.

It was a really cute "whole group" learning activity and I feel lucky that both Paul and I could be there.

Just because.......

Lately I have been having these "I can't believe they're mine" moments. I honestly feel like I just had these kids. And now the seem so big. Where has the time gone??? I don't really have babies anymore. I felt the need to post these pictures..........just because I can't stop time.

One Day.....Two Celebrations

My last and final duty as room mom was planning the Kinder class party with the other 6 room moms. We had decided to go with an outdoor party with stations for each class. It was a blast.....a HOT blast but still a blast none the less.

On a different note, I had one of those moments today when I really wished I could be in two places at the exact same time. As I was walking out the door to go up to the school and get things set up for the party.....the home phone rings. It was Emmy's school....she had thrown up and I needed to come pick her up ASAP. Seriously? Today? Her last day? The only day I HAVE to be somewhere? Thank God I have JoLynn. She went and picked up Emmy and brought her to her house so I could still be with Tyson at his party. I am lucky to have such a great friend. No too many people you can call and ask to drive 20 minutes to pick up your sick child.

Ok....back to the end of the year party........

Go Tyson!

All the girls were yelling "we love Tyson!"

On to the the second celebration of the day. It was time to celebrate the end of another baseball season. What a successful season! Not only did the boys hit coach pitched balls, this season they actually got players out.

PROUD!
Tyson became pretty close with the Harjo twins, Barrett and Grayson

He's only 6 and he has 2 graduations under his belt.....

Today was very bittersweet for me. I am so proud of my Tyson. I can't believe an entire school year has gone by. He has developed so much intellectually and socially. He's about to be a 1st grader....WOW! He started school barely being able to read, math was counting to 100 and no idea about past presidents. He now can read chapter books by himself, do addition , subtraction and story problems, he knows parts and punctuation of a sentence, and knows all about the the influential previous presidents and so much more. He was just a sponge this year and seemed to really enjoy learning. He can't wait to read to us each evening......"one more page, please Mommy." I am one PROUD Mommy!!!!

Colton and Tyson were up to no good. They giggled the whole time.

Go Buddy! It was so cute, the principal, assistant and the counselor all wore their cap and gowns to handout the "diplomas."
The expression on his face sums up the whole morning. He was so excited. He was laughing and being pretty silly most of the ceremony. Anyone that knows Tyson knows this is not his normal behavior.

After the ceremony we went back to the classroom so the kids could show us a book of their work completed during the year. Then we were treated to a slide show of pictures set to the cutest music. As I watched I couldn't help but get teary eyed.......all of these kids have grown so much. Being the room mom I've been coming to the class since the beginning of the year and have really gotten to know all of the kiddos. I should mention each child also got a copy of the slide show on a DVD to take home. My child has watched it at least 20 times already.

Kennedy and Tyson.......I will never forget after the first couple days of school he came home saying Kennedy was his friend and she was always nice to him.

Of course, Jackson is best buddy.

We will all miss Mrs. Heinze! She has made this year so wonderful for Tyson, for that I will always be so grateful.

What happened to the 3 legged race?

Tyson had his first Field Day on Thursday. It was our second attempt to have it, due to weather last week it had been rescheduled. His school is fortunate to be directly across the street from a huge county park, which makes Field Day even more special since it's not at the school . Each class wore different color Tshirts, that made for easy grade recognition. It actually worked out better for me, it being on a Thursday Em was in school so I could give Tyson my undivided attention. Paul took the day off so he could volunteer. He was up at the park by 7 am helping the PE teacher get the stations set up. Tyson likes me being at the school events, but he has gotten used to it; having Paul there was extra special.

Field day consists of 20 or so stations and the classes are rotated through to each one spending about 10 minutes at the station. AND there is no competition. No 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place ribbons. No score is kept. No winners, no losers. Everybody wins. There were no relay races, no tug-of-war, and there was no 3 legged race. Quick side note: My friend Jeana and I rocked the 3 legged race competition back in 5th and 6th grade. It was definitely different from how I remembered Field Day, but the kids seemed to have so much fun.

The snack station.....always a hit.

Cup stacking!!! Who knew? This was a huge favorite with the kiddos, especially mine.

Grab the Flag......this one got a little messy.

Ava. Enough said there. This little girl has been asking me to have a "play date" with Tyson since she met me on the 2nd day of school.

Look at that form! Go Buddy Go!!!

Rolling the hula hoop to the red cone

All in all I would call our first Field Day a SUCCESS!

Field Trip 101

Tyson had his first field trip today. We thought for a while he wasn't going to make it, since he had been sick all week too. I kept him home yesterday so he could rest up for it. Priorities, you know. We went to Enchanted Springs Ranch in Boerne. It was a pretty neat place. It had an "old west" feel to it and lots of wild animals to see as well. The kids were able to learn about the cowboy life a long time ago and even see a gun twirler perform. Fortunately the weather cooperated with sunshine and no rain. All and all I'd say it was a great first field trip.

Tyson and his best buddy, Jackson

I feel so lucky I was able to enjoy this with him. I'm so proud of my Tyson, he's become such a little man.

Their favorite part was seeing the animals. My favorite part was seeing Tyson have so much fun with his friends. I only wish I could have been a fly on the school bus. I heard that was total chaos.

Check out all of these kiddos. Ummm. I don't think you should be hanging from the stagecoach, where the heck are the chaperones?"

Lunchtime!!!!

I can't think of a better way to wrap up a field trip than with a tasty snow cone.
