Jake

About four weeks ago Tyson came home from school asking for a large jar, a piece of scrap material and a piece of ribbon. He informed me they would be making "mud babies." Well today our mud baby came home.......his name is Jake, and he needs a haircut. Tyson was so proud of Jake, he even took him next door to Sherri's, so she could meet him too.

Hey neighbor.....

Every evening when Paul gets home from work, our conversation goes something like this....

Me: (As he walks in the door), hey babe!
Paul: Hey! Where are the kids?
Me: Em's coloring in the living room and Tyson's on the fence.

Tyson's friend Anna lives behind us, one house over. These two talk every afternoon till dinner and usually continue after dinner till Tammi (Anna's mom) or I call them in for shower and bedtime.

Remember the sitcom with Tim Allen from the 90's.....he'd always talk to his neighbor behind him and you could only see the top of his head. This sort of reminds me of that.

My little dance crew

Just a typical Saturday evening in my living room......

Her most expensive accessory yet......

No your eyes do not deceive you. Emmy got new specs and she is still getting used to them. AND it's taking lots of positive encouragement from all of us.

So how does a three and a half year old end up in glasses? Well last week I noticed Em closing one eye when she would watch TV. I started watching her a little closer and noticed she did it quite a bit. She would also cross one eye whenever she would pick up something or try to focus close up. I took her to her pediatrician Friday and she was concerned that Em was crossing them quite a bit. She referred us to a pediatric ophthalmologist the following Monday. The doctor informed us she was far sighted, and when she would try to focus close up her eyes would cross as a result. He also said it was very common in this age group and that most parents don't notice till the kids are in school and trying to read. No doubt trying to make us feel better since I was already tearing up. He prescribed her glasses and said there was a good chance she could outgrow it and her eyes could correct themselves.

Fast forward three days, we've tried on many..... many glasses and these were her favorite. Paul and I agreed it didn't matter how much they cost as long as she would wear them. Because reasoning with a three year old about the importance of wearing glasses was out the window. She had to like them.

We picked them up today. She did tell me she could see her coloring book much better now.

She's still my beautiful blue-eyed baby that just looks a little older and a lot cuter!

I have to be honest. I was heart broken at first that my little girl was going to need glasses, especially at such a young age. Paul and I don't wear glasses but we're the minority in both of our families. Both sets of grandparents and our siblings wear them. Guess it was in the cards. I'm over it now and I just want to help her.

So far 2011 is the year for new challenges.

Donuts with Dad

Tyson has been so EXCITED the last few weeks while he prepared for "Donuts with Dad" at school. He drew several portraits and wrote some special things for Paul. So when Friday morning finally rolled around he was on cloud nine. Paul said it was a touching and he had to hold back some tears as the kids read the famous "Walk with me Daddy" poem.

One thing I love about this picture is that Tyson has at least half a donut stuffed inside those cheeks.

Lacrosse 101

When a friend of Tyson's asked him to play Lacrosse, we thought "Sure. Why not? What's Lacrosse?" We want to expose him to as many different activities as possible till he find something he's really passionate about. So we are now members of Edmond Lacrosse Little Scoopers program. I was concerned at first when I found out they had to wear mouth pieces and protective eyewear, but it's "no contact" till 3rd grade. So far it's been pretty fun. He's had two skills practices and still two more to go before they start the games. Tyson really seems to enjoy the throwing and catching with the stick and he loves running and cradling the ball. Paul is also learning the lacrosse basics by volunteering to help the coach.

They start each practice by running a lap with their stick then doing some warm up drills. It's pretty cute to watch.

Em starts gymnastics next week, we're hoping for an equally successful first time experience.

Flat Stanley's STAYcation

Last summer I introduced Tyson to the Adventures of Flat Stanley books. He was instantly sold on this series about a little boy who had become flattened like a postcard and his many travels and adventures. Tyson's class created their own personal "Flat Stanley." Then their spring break assignment was to take Stanley with them and include him in their plans. Which explains why all of the pictures I took over spring break had Tyson holding a "paper doll," as my sister put it. The second part of their homework assignment was to take pictures, and display them in a way they could present them to the class.
